One of the questions we get asked quite a lot is “what does my donation actually do?” or “how can I impact people living thousdands of miles away?” These are both great questions, and both have a lot of answers.
In can sometimes be hard to quantify the impact that you have by donating to Musicians Without Borders – how does one put a price on peace, community wellbeing, and security?
While we may not be able to answer this directly, we can give you a bit of an insight into how much it costs to keep our projects running, and so, for your reference, we have created a simple guide with some of our costs, and what your donations directly fund. This isn’t a complete list, but it will help give you an idea of what we consider when running projects:
2,50 EUR: A Reesha for ‘Ud students in Palestine, which allows children to pluck the strings
5 EUR: Rosin for a violin bow for a child in Palestine
6 EUR: 1 set of new guitar strings for a music leader to use in workshops for children living with disabilities in Rwanda
9 EUR: travel for a team of music leaders to visit a displacement camp and run a music workshop for children in the Democratic Republic of Congo
10 EUR: a month’s worth of strings or drum sticks for a student of Mitrovica Rock School or Roma Rock School
10 EUR: A shoulder rest for a violin student in Palestine, allowing them to play the instrument comfortably and properly
15 EUR: Travel costs for our Welcome Notes trainers in Bosnia and Herzegovina
20 EUR: New strings for an ‘Ud for a child in Palestine
20 EUR: 1 month travel costs for a music leader to visit centres and work with 120 children living with disabilities in Rwanda
25 EUR: A tablah/darbuka, percussion instruments used in our Jordan and Palestine projects
30 EUR: A choir or ensemble lesson for 50 children in Jordan and Palestine
30 EUR: Travel costs for our Welcome Notes trainers in the Netherlands
50 EUR: Food for one of our Welcome Notes workshops in Bosnia and Herzegovina
60 EUR: 1 month of music workshops for 60 children living with disabilities in Rwanda
60 EUR: The cost of 1 music workshop at an internally displaced persons camp in the Democratic Republic of Congo
75 EUR: The full tuition cost for one student to attend music lessons and band coaching sessions for a month at Mitrovica Rock School or Roma Rock School
120 EUR: 1 month of music workshops for 120 children living with disabilities in Rwanda
125 EUR: a full day of recording for an ethnically mixed band at Mitrovica Rock School’s professional recording studio
150 EUR: Porridge and a drink for 75 children after a music workshop in a displacement camp in the Democratic Republic of Congo
275 EUR: the cost of a Welcome Notes workshop in Bosnia and Herzegovina
400 EUR: the cost of a Welcome Notes workshop in The Netherlands
As you can see, a small or a large donation can really go a long way in our projects. By donating one of these amounts to our summer campaign, you will have a direct impact on the people who rely on our projects, who use music to build bridges and resilience.
