The following blog was written by Amanda, who is a student at the Roma Rock School, for International Women’s Day.
International Women’s Day is of exceptional importance to me, and I believe it should be an important date for every person. It is the day when women raised their voices and demanded the same rights as men.
Today, the position of women is at a much higher level than before, but still not everywhere in the world they are equal to men. This is noticeable in the inclusion of women in jobs in general, in their inclusion in decision-making job positions, involvement in the political sphere, the level of salaries, and in many other ways.
We can and we must continue the struggle of women until all women in the world, regardless of their race, nationality, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, and any other determination, enjoy all human rights.
Music is an important part of my life. Some thoughts that I cannot express in words I express through music. I enjoy creating and spend a large part of my day listening to music. Music is something wonderful, something that makes the world a better place to live.
I play in a band in which I am the only girl. As part of the band, I feel heard, my suggestions are respected just like the other members. My band and I respect each other and that’s how we build mutual success.
I would like every girl to experience that. To achieve something in life, to be respected and appreciated. Me and all the other girls to stand firmly on our own feet and not let anyone hurt us. To help each other and support each other.
Every girl and every woman has her own human rights and we should not let anyone stand in the way of our happiness and prevent us from doing what we enjoy.
I, as a Roma girl who actively advocates for her rights, wish every Roma girl to succeed in what she wants in life and to realize her dream. To be given a chance like any other person.
I also want women to remember that when a woman wants something, she makes the impossible possible. When a woman sets her mind to something, no one can stand in her way. That’s the woman I believe in. That’s my mother, that’s me, and that can be all of you, my dear ladies.
May this day remind us of how strong we are, how powerful we are, how much we know and are capable of. Let us never let anyone make us forget how much we are worth. We are the ones who give life, so let us not forget that we should live our lives the way we want.
