Tanzania Youth Music will train 30 youth and community leaders from 21 community organisations to integrate community music approaches into their support work with 1000s of vulnerable youth in the Arusha region of Tanzania.
Tanzania Youth Music employs the expertise of Musicians without Borders to strengthen the capacity of community based organizations in Moshi District, close to Kilimanjaro. The project is in cooperation with FEMI and operates in line with the foundation’s aims to increase community participation and access to education and healthcare in Tanzania.
The goal of Tanzania Youth Music is to build local capacity and strengthen Tanzanian cultural connections. 30 youth and community leaders will be trained to incorporate community music methods within organizations working in partnership with FEMI.
Based on the successful Rwanda Youth Music program, Musicians without Borders will conduct music workshop leadership trainings for 30 community members in Moshi, the Lower Moshi region, and Arusha, engaging them to work with vulnerable children or youth on a regular basis.
Following the training, all participants will be better equipped to engage their communities, strengthen social bonds between vulnerable children, and between children and their families through music. The trainees will acquire skills in running music workshops and will become leaders and role models, promoting community involvement and increasing social awareness concerning HIV-infected/affected individuals and other marginalized groups.
Rwandan musicians and graduates from our Rwanda Youth Music project will work alongside six international trainers to provide four weeks of training to 30 youth and community leaders in Tanzania. The training course will incorporate elements of percussion, vocal skills, song-writing, games and musical activities.
A strong emphasis is placed on community leadership skills and is informed by Musicians without Borders’ ethos of inclusion, community building and reconciliation through music. Trainees who complete the full year’s course will be certified by Musicians without Borders as Music Workshop Leaders.
