We’re back in El Salvador for the third training week in our program Soy Música. We are training 35 Salvadoran music teachers and community facilitators to become community music leaders, and use music as a tool to promote inclusion and social harmony among thousands of children in El Salvador.
Our brilliant workshop leader Halimeh Sarabtah Deaf gave another series of music workshops in January to children and teenagers with special needs in the Ramallah district, Palestine. Using paper sheets and sticks, Halimeh creates a special music environment that can be enjoyed by both hearing and deaf people. Thank you Halimeh for your beautiful work!
Last week, we trained 23 musicians who are working or aspire to work with refugee communities, in partnership with the Landesmusikakademie NRW in Germany.
This Thursday and Friday, we will co-host an expert meeting on the arts and social inclusion in Heek. Learn more: http://bit.ly/2AdxMJ1
October and November have been two exciting months for our special music program in Palestine: Halimeh Sarabtah Deaf, our deaf music workshop leader, participated in the Training of Trainers in The Netherlands, started working in three new centers, and gave 81 music workshops to deaf children and children with special needs.
This week, we began the second phase of our Soy Música training in El Salvador with good energy and music making. We expect a full and intense week ahead of new experiences in community music leadership!
