We’re happy to announce Music Connects, a Creative Twinning project that brings together youth at three rock schools in former Yugoslavia, using state-of-the-art rock music education to promote social inclusion.
Longtime Mitrovica Rock School member Jelena Zafirovic has been the front woman and lead song writer of two ethnically mixed bands, Sublime 6 and Rootless. She is now working on her first solo album, Melancholia. We asked Jelena about life as a musician in Mitrovica and what inspired the album.
On April 14, ethnically mixed Mitrovica Rock School band Proximity Mine performed for hundreds of soldiers on a truck stage at a benefit march and concert. The proceeds of the event will go to a public address system needed for school concerts.
A small piece of the story of Musicians without Borders’ work can be told through numbers; the number of people participating in programs, the number of activities that have taken place, the number of organizations around the world with which we work. Of course, each of these numbers represents a story in itself, of the music made by people in a moment of their lives.
On April 14, 2018, the Soroptimist Club Amersfoort organized a major benefit event for Musicians without Borders’ project Mitrovica Rock School.
