Musicians Without Borders – Financial Administrator

Musicians Without Borders is looking for a financial administrator with solid accounting skills to support the work of the Finance Manager. The job offer is for 16 to 24 hours per week for an initial period of at least six months, starting as soon as possible, with the possibility of continuation if performance is positively evaluated. The job will be performed from the Head Office in Amsterdam.

Musicians Without Borders is an international organization that uses the power of music to bridge divides, connect communities, and heal the wounds of war. Musicians Without Borders implements projects, develops methodologies, organizes training courses and participates in international conferences around reconciliation and healing through music.

Musicians Without Borders currently runs projects located in the Balkans (Kosovo, North Macedonia, Bosnia & Herzegovina), the Middle East (Palestine), Central Eastern Africa (Rwanda), Central America (El Salvador), and with refugees in Europe. We deliver training in Western Europe (Netherlands, Germany, Greece, Italy), the US, and the UK.

Under the supervision of the Finance Manager, the financial administrator will be responsible for maintaining the financial records of the organization by recording transactions on a daily/weekly basis, making journal entries for all receipts, payments and other financial transactions, filing source documents for all journal entries recorded, posting journal entries to ledger accounts, preparing trial balances and supporting preparation of project budgets and financial reports for donors.


  • Prepare and accurately record day-to-day financial transactions of the organization using the accounting software Exactonline;
  • Reconcile accounts to assert the accuracy of transactions;
  • Ensure that financial information, documentation and accounting for the organization and its projects is complete, accurate and auditable;
  • Support the production of P&L, Balance Sheet and annual financial statements;
  • Use appropriate controls throughout all financial accounting and reporting processes, to adhere to Dutch and international accounting standards;
  • Apply knowledge of local laws to ensure compliance with reporting requirements;
  • Monitor, analyze and investigate any variances from the approved budget;
  • Support the continuous improvement of efficiency and effectiveness of accounting and financial processes;
  • Fulfill role in an independent and proactive manner and ensure that the associated administrative processes run efficiently;
  • Back up Finance Manager in preparation and execution of payments when needed.


  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Business Administration, or equivalent;
  • Proven accounting experience;
  • Minimum of 2 years in a financial role;
  • Experience at NGOs is an advantage;
  • Solid understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounting payable/receivable principles, financial accounting standards, management accounting techniques, internal and external audit standards;
  • Proven ability to calculate, post and manage accounting figures and financial records;
  • Hands-on experience with spreadsheets (Excel advance level) and accounting software is a must;
  • Proficiency in written and spoken Dutch and English, knowledge of another language is an advantage.


  • Data entry skills along with a knack for numbers;
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail;
  • Ability to handle confidential information;
  • Affinity with the work of Musicians Without Borders.
  • Independent and proactive.
