Earlier this month, our training team returned to Rwinkwavu, Eastern Province, to run the next stage of the Community Music Leadership training program for 20 community leaders who will use the skills to support street children and young people affected by poverty and limited opportunities. The training team is made up of Musicians Without Borders’ trainers from Rwanda, and experienced music leaders from our partner organization WE-ACTx for Hope. The training course is a collaboration with Ready for Reading and SACCK.
The focus of the weekend was on developing songwriting skills. Together, the trainees wrote a song titled: “Urukundo” (Love).
The following day, the trainees used their new skills to run songwriting activities with children from the local community.
Back in Kigali, our Community Music Leaders have spent weeks preparing a special performance for the annual Day of the African Child (June 16) in celebration with WE-ACTx for Hope staff and families. The Community Music Leaders put on an impressive show of both traditional and modern music and dance, showcasing songs they had composed themselves. Enjoy the photos!
