As we enter 2018, we would like to share some highlights of what your support made possible in 2017.
This year, we invested in training and development of local leadership, with the first MwB Community Music Leadership training delivered entirely by our local team. We continued to build upon our long-standing partnership with health clinic WE-ACTx for Hope, training their peer parents (young support workers) in community music leadership skills, who reach hundreds of children and youth through weekly workshops. Further, our outreach program continues to engage some of the most vulnerable children in Kigali, including street children and young people affected by HIV.
Beneficiaries in 2017:
June: On African Children’s Day, 150 children and their caregivers attended a celebration, which highlighted music from all the support programs, including traditional performances, drumming, instrumental groups and singing.
October: Project assistant Allison Shyaka ran music workshops for schoolchildren in Luxembourg, in cooperation with social justice organizations Amitié Am Sand-Amizero and Comité pour une Paix Juste au Proche-Orient, as well as attended MwB’s Training of Trainers in the Netherlands (October). December: 15 We-ACT for Hope youth graduated to become community music leaders, with more than 300 children present at the final event
In 2018, we will continue training new community music leaders, offering them employment opportunities and a positive outlook for their future as well as engaging thousands of vulnerable children and youth through music workshops.
