First Ugandan Community Music Leaders
April 20, 2017

On May 27th, thirty young leaders from our partner organization in Uganda, Alive Medical Services (AMS), will graduate from Musicians without Borders’ training as Community Music Leaders. The graduation event will be the culmination of four weeks of training through the past year, during which they have learnt skills to lead groups in drumming, singing, song-writing, dance, and musical play.

Already these amazing young music leaders have established regular sessions of supportive music-making for children from Alive Medical Services. Twice a month on Saturday mornings they work with groups of up to 30 children, and during the weeks they make music with young people attending children’s clinic days, and nutrition clinics.  Almost 500 children have participated in music-making as part of this pioneering healthcare approach at AMS.
