The last week of August, the Mitrovica Rock School organized it’s ninth annual summer school. Over forty young musicians from north and south Mitrovica came together for a week of songwriting, rehearsing, recording and performing. We started with eight ethnically mixed bands and, after some remixing on the first day, ended up with seven. Both the studio recording and band coaching was done by former students who have graduated into teaching positions and now play central roles in the Rock School.
All bands wrote three to four new songs, which they performed at the final concert in Skopje’s City Park. The bands also all recorded one of their songs, released on a compilation album that was handed out during the concert (soon to be released on Soundcloud.com, after the final mix is done). The concert was attended by 50 audience members from north and south Mitrovica, who traveled to the concert together by bus.
Participant Jelena Zafirovic kept a daily photo blog during the summer school, and will continue blogging for the Rock School. Check out our blog here!
