Violin Teacher Wanted!
May 30, 2014   Palestine

Sounds of Palestine is a community music project inspired and based on the concept of El Sistema in Venezuela: using music education as a medium to achieve long term social change for the children and families involved. Sounds of Palestine started in 2012 in Bethlehem. Nearly 200 children (age 4-5) receive music workshops twice a week. These workshops take place in the three kindergartens in al-Azzeh and Aida refugee camp in Bethlehem. Once children start 1st grade they follow an afternoon program twice a week. Here, they participate in choir, theory and instrument lessons such as percussion, violin and cello. For (a period of) the school year 2014-2015 we are looking for a violin teacher to support our team for at least 6 weeks, teaching 1st and 2nd graders.

We are looking for a violin teacher with experience in

  • group teaching young children (age 6-8)

  • El Sistema inspired programs

  • developing teaching material (songs, games, excercises etc.) and writing lesson plans

We offer

  • a two-way flight ticket from Europe to Palestine

  • an appartment in Bethlehem area

  • a unique experience to work with vulnerable refugee children in a challenging environment

We expect from you to

  • give violin group lessons together with the local violin teacher and a social worker two afternoons and one morning a week in Aida refugee camp (small groups have three children, big groups twelve children)

  • train the local violin teacher in didactic, pedagogy, group teaching and developing repertoire for beginners.

Are you available for at least six weeks? Do you want to join our team during the school year 2014-2015? Please contact Fabienne van Eck: [email protected]
