Mitrovica Rock School launches a new cycle of mixed “Ambassador Bands”
May 12, 2014   West Balkans

In April 2014, four ethnically mixed Ambassador Bands started writing new songs for the upcoming Band Camp in August this year. The bands are competing under the Rock School’s Ambassador Band Program for touring opportunities in the region and the EU. Because the members cannot safely meet in their home town of Mitrovica (Kosovo), they are currently writing their songs through the internet, using the Rock School’s home studios to record and exchange ideas. Their song ideas – some already have completed lyrics written by both sides (!) – are sounding very promising for the big event in August. The bands are busy choosing band names and are excited to finally meet in person after sharing so many creative musical ideas.

The Ambassador Band Camp will take place in August and is traditionally held in Skopje, the capital of neighboring Macedonia. In Skopje, the bands will continue writing and recording and close off the week with an open-air concert, where they will be judged by an international jury. But because music has no losers, all bands will continue, although on different tracks. Besides these four, the concert lineup in Skopje will include Ambassador Bands the Artchitects and the Toe May Toes.

Ambassador Band Sublime 6 made the international headlines this year, with features on BBC News and national Australian national radio ABC.

The prizes include:

1) Recording at the Fontys Rockacademie in Tilburg, the Netherlands, in November 2014 and touring Berlin in spring of 2015
2) Touring Skopje in October 2014 and Berlin in spring of 2015
3) Recording at the Fontys Rockacademie in November 2014
4) Touring Skopje in October 2014

We wish the bands the best of luck!
