Connecting through Art – event June 19th
Thursday, 1 January, 1970

Musicians without Borders in collaboration with other Anna Lindh Consortium members, wants to show policymakers and peacemakers alike, how culture and art can be a tool of connection and reconciliation, through the full-day event that will be held on the 19th of June: ‘’Connecting through Art’’.

The cultural sector is suffering the negative consequences of the worsened economic environment. Governments are cutting back on the cultural industry because of its low perceived potential for generating economic growth. This results in an underfunding of the cultural sector. However, this view of the creative arts as a side issue neglects the unquantifiable effects of culture on understanding, peace and prosperity. Our shared belief is that peace leads to greater economic prosperity, higher standards of living, health and education. To show peacemakers and policymakers alike, the truth in this statement, the Dutch Anna Lindh Network has decided to organize the event “Connecting through the Art” on June 19th.

The participants will be offered an opportunity to learn about the value of the creative arts in respect to connecting people, bridging divides as to show how creative arts can be a form of dialogue that leads to empowerment of and connection across cultures. Creative, musical and theatrical workshops will be provided by the different experts organizations covering issues such as making use of the public space through creative arts,  using creative arts in conflict areas to connect conflicting parties or as positive cultural identity. A documentary will be provided as well as different speeches and performances. We aim to present you with real-world examples of groups of artists using their collective intelligence to use culture in their fight for peace.
