Rwanda Outreach Program Begins
May 29, 2013   Rwanda

In May 2013, the graduated trainees from the training program in 2012-2013, started the outreach program, where they visit centers across Rwanda to give music workshops, reaching hundreds of more children yearly. This was the first outreach day, organized together with Shalom Educating for Peace.

On Saturday, May 26, 2013, Dossa, Emile, Augustine, and Nadine, entered the Jado’s car, and drove to Ndera where they were welcomed by the crew of Shalom Educating for Peace. They worked with two groups, each for an hour, playing musical games of rhythm, singing, playing instruments and improvisation.

The outreach program is set to:

  1. Establish connections between vulnerable youths and children from different centers in Rwanda.
  2. Strengthen the graduated youth leaders’ skills in community music-making.
  3. Empower the youth leaders by giving them logistical and administrative responsibilities, as well having to plan the workshops. For this work they also receive salaries.
  4. Reach hundreds of more children in Rwanda yearly!

We hope to return to Ndera soon, and visit more centers in the coming months.
