Rap in Beit Ummar
June 21, 2012   Palestine
Every Friday in May and June, eight boys and girls come together in a community center in Beit Ummar, a village south of Bethlehem. Trained by the rappers Mosa and Hajj MC, the children write new rap songs about things that are important in their lives.

At the beginning of the workshop I visited, every participant shared the text he or she had written during the last week. “I wrote a second song when I woke up this morning!” It is great to see how motivated the children are and how much they have to tell the world.

In July, the children will visit the recording studio in Dheisheh refugee camp to record their own-written songs.
