Projects & Programs - Songs of the world

Resources for Peacemaking

In March 2006, 90 children from three primary schools came together to sing, dance and create music together in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina. Children performed both their own compositions and folk pieces from many different cultures. The performance was recorded and aired on Bosnian television. Songs of the World (not to be confused with our songbooks, Songs of the World I and II) combined the efforts of the project’s creator, Professor Nigel Osborne, and seven Bosnian MwB musicians.

Professor Osborne is a pioneer in using music to help children recover from war-related trauma. MwB and Professor Osborne trained a team of musicians to lead the project. MwB will continue the project and also make the repertoire and teaching materials from “Songs of the World” available so that the project can be replicated in other countries.
