The Music Bus is a mobile music
school that provides music activities for children from all ethnic
backgrounds in the warn-torn Srebrenica region of Bosnia and
Herzegovina.
At the
Children’s Music Theater in Srebrenica, children from all
backgrounds learn the arts of singing, dancing, acting, stagecraft,
costuming and production. In the shadow of ethnic war, music
workshops and creative collaboration unclench fists and unlock
hearts.
Srebrenica
No place recalls the trauma caused by the war in Bosnia-Herzegovina
more profoundly than the municipality of Srebrenica, where
more than 8,000 men and boys were killed. Since the end
of the war, the entire region has struggled to recover
its vitality and sense of community.
The Music Bus in Schools
With the strong support
of school administrators and teachers, community center
administrators and parents, the Music Bus now offers workshops in
schools and community centers in Srebrenica and outlying mountain
villages. The Children’s Music Theater
The Music Bus team has started
Children’s Music Theater in the center of Srebrenica, offering classes
in music, dance, and drama to
children from both rural areas and the town. In partnership with
Opera Circus from the UK, the Children’s Music Theater produces
musicals for the public drawing children and their parents together in
unique examples of interethnic cooperation for a region still divided
by ethnic conflict.
