Projects & Programs - Rwanda and Uganda

Music Bus Goes Africa

Expanding our Middle East program, we train young Rwandans as music workshop leaders for children in the war-torn Great Lakes Area.

Pilot project
In 2010, Musicians without Borders sent two trainers to visit local organizations and work with children and women in Rwanda and Uganda. The goal was to assess the needs and possibilities for a long-term project in the Great Lakes Area in Central-East Africa, based on MwB methodologies and experience, in combination with local training, capacity building and  knowledge.

Training Rwandan youth leaders
A successful cooperation with the local organization WE-ACTx in Kigali, Rwanda, has led to the continuation of the project in 2011, where one of MwB trainers gives music workshop training to more than 20 local youth leaders. Together they do music workshops with children in the annual summer camps in different locations around Kigali, and lead music activities during the Sunday program throughout the year.

Training week and women's program
MwB and WE-ACTx are seeking together to expand the program and include more training weeks during the year, and to implement the Women-to-Women program in Rwanda in order to reach genocide survivors and rape victims.
