MwB Co-Organizes Seminar/Workshop, “Sing the Bridge: Choral Singing and Intercultural Dialogue,” in Debrecen, Hungary

In anticipation of the 23rd Béla Bartók International Choir Competition and Folklore Festival, Europa Cantat (Central Eastern European Centre), Musicians without Borders International and Fonix Events Organising Non-Profit, Ltd., are organizing “Sing the Bridge: Choral Singing and Intercultural Dialogue”, a seminar/workshop focusing on Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe. The event will explore how choral singers can contribute to reconciliation of peoples in conflict in their countries and regions. Participants will gain specific tools, new contacts, resources and ideas to use in bridging barriers and building communities.

LéLé Mam Concert Kicks Off New Project, “Od Žene Do Žene” (“From Woman to Woman”) in Srebrenica, Bosnia-Herzegovina

The Inner Wheel is the women’s organization affiliated with Rotary, the international service organization. 2008 marks the 50th anniversary of The Inner Wheel chapter in Aerdenhout (near Haarlem). Inspired by our work with children in Srebrenica and with women choirs in the Netherlands, they have adopted our new project in Srebrenica as the focus for their fund-raising this year. To kick off their efforts, they invited LéLé Mam to perform a concert during their opening celebration.

Help the World Sing Again

Musicians without Borders uses the power of music for healing and reconciliation and to build a culture of non-violence. Musicians without Borders gives music back to those people who are suffering from the results of war and violence in Bosnia, Kosovo, Palestine and in Dutch refugee centers. We do this out of 2 offices (Alkmaar and Sarajevo) with a total of just 3 full-time staff and 2 part-time staff -- plus the generous donations of time and energy from numerous musicians and other professionals. But we also need money.
