Third MwB International Conference
in Amman
Twice before, Musicians without Borders has brought together
musicians from many countries to share insights about how music
can contribute to healing, non-violence, reconstruction and
reconciliation. In Sarajevo (2003) and in Utrecht (2004) the
MwB international network was broadened and strengthened, new
associations were made and sources of inspiration were shared
in a series of spirited meetings and gatherings that transcended
the concept of a ‘conference’.
Tuning,
the Sound of Human Connection
Now we are working on plans for a third conference: ‘Tuning,
the Sound of Human Connection’, that will take place in
May 2008 in the Jordanian capital Amman. The goal of this third
MwB Conference is to bring together musicians, music therapists
and psycho-social workers to explore the role of music in healing,
reconciliation, building resilience and reconstructing civil
society in conflict areas.

The Middle East
A location in the Middle East has been selected because MwB
is currently developing new plans for music projects in Palestine.
There is already a group of volunteers in Amman ready to help
us. The Music Academy of Jordan has made space available for
the entire conference. And Princess Basma, the sister of the
late King Hussein, has agreed to deliver an address to opening
the proceedings. Now we need the financial resource! We hope
to have that arranged in the course of January and be able to
give a “go” for the conference.
