New MwB ‘House Concert’ SeriesMusicians without Borders enjoys a considerable reputation among national organizations as well as in the places where its projects are conducted. Yet we feel the urge to make the organization better known locally, so that people who feel moved by the idea of working towards a change in mentality through music can participate even if they are not musicians themselves. To this end a new project is starting this summer called “House Concerts”- actually a century’s old phenomenon. Concerts in private homes were a way to have an enjoyable evening before we had the luxury of gramophone, radio, and the multimedia of the present day. They are also a good way to create an intimate atmosphere for you and your friends to be inspired by the passion of the musicians.

This is how it works: people let us know that they want to open their house for a concert. Together we search for a suitable group or soloist. The host or hostess invites a number of friends and media publicity is taken care of. There must be sufficient space for at least 30 and maximum 50 members of the public. Each visitor pays an entry fee. A representative of Musicians without Borders will talk about the organization or a specific project, and then a concert of about an hour follows. At the end, members of the public can indicate whether they are willing to make their house available for a concert, or perhaps become a donor or provide support in a different form. In this way we hope to strengthen and expand our grass roots support.
