Help the World Sing Again
Musicians without Borders uses the power of music for healing
and reconciliation and to build a culture of non-violence. Musicians
without Borders gives music back to those people who are suffering
from the results of war and violence in Bosnia, Kosovo, Palestine
and in Dutch refugee centers. We do this out of 2 offices (Alkmaar
and Sarajevo) with a total of just 3 full-time staff and 2 part-time
staff -- plus the generous donations of time and energy from
numerous musicians and other professionals. But we also need
money.
We need your help!
What does Musicians without Borders do with your money?
The Music Bus in Srebrenica brings music,
dance and theatre to more than 1000 children in Srebrenica and
the nearby refugee camps and mountain villages. Setting up a
music theatre for children is the Music Bus team’s most
recent initiative.
The Winds of Change
The Nederlands Blazers Ensemble (Netherlands Wind Ensemble)
provides the inspiration for a fresh new multi-ethnic wind ensemble
in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Students and young professional musicians
play Bach and Mozart, jazz and funk, and give the Bosnian public
a tangible sense of how culture is blossoming in their country
once again.
Popschool in Mitrovica
MwB sends instruments to young pop musicians in Mitrovica, Kosovo
– one of the world’s most divided cities. We also
work with our partner, Community Building Mitrovica, to set
up a school where all students are welcome to learn to play
pop music together.
New Project in Palestine
Together with MwB Bosnia-Herzegovina and several Palestinian
partners, MwB is developing a program for Palestinian children
in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. Making music with children
living in difficult circumstances makes them more resilient,
gives them joy and contributes to a culture of non-violence.
Training
This year MwB has trained 40 musicians to make music with children
in refugee camps in the Netherlands. In the project Singing
the Bridge MwB trains conductors to lead multi-cultural women’s
choirs. We are now developing an international training course
for musicians working in conflict areas.

Instrument Fund
Together with 14 Dutch music schools, MwB collects used musical
instruments and passes them on to refugee musicians in the Netherlands,
to our own music projects in foreign countries, and to other
similar initiatives. This year, instruments have been sent to
a peace orchestra in Burundi and a children’s project
in Guatemala.
At this season when we hope for peace, help us give music and
hope back to those that need it most. You may designate your
gift for one of the above projects, or make a general donation
(all donations are tax deductible).
